The picture on the left is of the Hoad Monument, long seen as the symbol of Ulverston itself, and adopted as the emblem of Ulverston Photographic Society.
Built as a replica of the Eddystone Lighthouse, it commemorates the service of a local man, Sir John Barrow, for forty years, second secretary of the Admiralty
