COMPETITION RULES

Prints and slides may be entered by any member  whose subscription is paid to date.
With the exception of mounting and processing of prints and slides, entries  must be entirely the entrant’s own work.
All slides must be in standard size projection mounts and correctly spotted (bottom left when looked at in the hand). PDI entries on C/D or memory stick.

All prints must be mounted.

Maximum mount sizes for all competitions are as follows:
50 cm x 40 cm. There is no minimum size.
The PAGB rules on mount size is very specific so members should read these rules if they intend entering external competitions.
A print, PDI  or slide once entered in a competition or exhibition of this Society, may not be entered again in the same competition or exhibition in any subsequent year.

Titles are optional but desirable and should be on the slide mount and either the front or back of the print.
Maximum number of entries (except John Dixon Trophy)
For bi-monthly and annual competitions, in Beginners and Advanced  sections, maxima are as follows:
                                   6 Entries in total
Members may enter in Advanced  colour  & Beginners mono, or vice-versa, or both in the same section.
If the Competition Secretary decides that the overall entry is too large,  competitor's 5th and 6th choice in any category will be left out,  therefore entrants must indicate which these are to be.
The method of marking must be very clear.

Digital prints acceptable and need not be identified. In the case of Natural History, manipulation must be confined to repair of minor blemishes.

Beginners who take first or second place in the totting up of bi-monthly competition points, shall transfer to Advanced for that class in the following year. Those who take first place in any class of the Annual Competition shall be given the option of transferring to advanced. The Committee may request any other member, whose work appears to merit it, similarly to transfer to Advanced. New members shall enter in the section in which they were in their previous society.

The John Dixon Trophy Competition is open to all members, with no separation into Advanced or Beginners. Competitors are asked to submit entries as a  set of four,  to be judged individually on photographic merit. Each photograph  will carry a maximum of 25 marks with a further 100 marks available to be judged on how effectively the group constitutes a set, giving a possible total of 200 marks. . The member with the highest total holds the trophy for one year and is responsible for it during that year. Slides must be in standard “2 x 2” mounts, spotted and with a title. Prints must be mounted with a title, shown either on the back or the front.

The maximum mount size is 50cm x 40cm  and maximum print size 16” x 12”. All prints in the same entry should be the same size. The judge will assess each entry for: composition, impact, technical quality, pictorial quality and  interpretation of competition theme.
